Just So Ya'll Know...

1. Yes, I did just say "Ya'll." Deal. :)

2. Recently, and this is the main point of this post, lots of people having been asking me if I find men to be attractive, so I figured I'd answer the question here for everyone.
It depends on your meaning of "attractive." I think some men are hot (*ahem* Channing Tatum), but there's not a guy where I'm like, "Oh yeah. Let me get on that."
But, I mean, I can't speak for all lesbians everywhere. I don't mind if you ask me, but just understand that that answer isn't true for everyone.
I would also encourage you to, before you ask someone who's gay, ask yourself. If you're straight, ask yourself if you find people of the same gender "attractive." Odds are, your answer is the same as a gay person's answer somewhere. :)

HU Queer Press

So before you read this post, read this:
You don't necessarily need to read the whole thing, but I highly recommend that you do.

I cannot express how much I am in love with these people. How much I admire them. How much I respect them. The courage they all have is mind-boggling. I was lucky enough to be raised by an accepting family in an accepting place, and I still struggled with coming out to myself.
But all of these writers, all of these students, most of them didn't have that luxury. And they're still able to fight for what they know to be right, even when they are surrounded by people telling them that they're wrong.
I mean, can you imagine that? The strength of character it takes to overcome the voices of everyone you love telling you that you're an abomination, the resolve it takes, the self-confidence it takes just to be able to come out, not to mention whatever characteristic it is that enables you to then stand up to all these people and tell them that they're wrong?
We need more people like these students in the world.
I'm in awe. Completely, totally, utterly in awe.

FCKH8 is my love.

Check out this website and their videos. I can't even handle how happy they make me. :)
And like/Tweet their videos.
And buy their shirts and stuff. They're super comfy and cute and awesome. :)

Round of applause, Google Chrome. This is too amazing for words.

Why Homophobes Are Wrong

This is a list of all the arguments I can think of against gay marriage/gay rights.
And why they're wrong. :)

1. Gay couples can't have children.
Alright. Like, do I even have to say this is bullshit? Because I shouldn't have to. But I will.
This.
Is.
BULLSHIT.
There's artificial insemination and adoption and, besides that, does the world really need more children? China was limiting families to one child for a while because of overpopulation, not to mention all of the children in foster homes that would love to have a loving couple take care of them. And I'm going to take a wild guess and say they really don't give a fuck if the couple is gay or straight.
And I won't even touch on the fact that there are infertile straight couples. That'd be too much.

2. Children need a male and female role model. Gay couples only supply one gender.
Okay. So first of all, if gay couples can't have children (see #1) then this shouldn't really be a problem...
And second of all, are we going to prohibit single parents from having kids? What if a straight couple gets divorced and one parent doesn't get custody rights? What if the parents die and the child is cared for by a widowed grandparent? I mean, do I need to keep going...?

3. Homosexuality is a stepping stone to beastiality.
This makes me laugh.
I would like to point out (as it seems to have escaped the notice of many Americans) that there is a difference between me having sex with another woman, and me having sex with a goat. In fact, not only is there a difference, there's really no relation at all.
Furthermore, I would argue that there are more similarities between straight sex and beastiality than there are between gay sex and beastiality seeing as in the first, there's at least two different genders...

4. Homosexual marriages will lead to polygamy.
Really my only argument against this is that I have no desire to marry five different people.
But, on a related topic, I once watched a debate over gay marriage on the Dr. Phil show via YouTube. Aside from the fact that Dr. Phil is a complete tool, the debate was actually pretty interesting. One man, who I believe was a Latter Day Saint, said that (and I'm paraphrasing) he thought that because the LDS Church had given up their polygamous practices to be a part of this country, gay people shouldn't expect "special treatment."
Dude. It's not my fault the LDS Church didn't have the balls to stand up for themselves. Just saying.

5. Gay people will recruit children.
So assuming that you could "recruit" children to be gay, I really don't like kids. I find them to be annoying. I have no desire to spend my time "recruiting" them.
But, on top of that, how exactly do you recruit a child? Like, if a math teacher tries to persuade a student to major in math at college, is that the same thing? Is there a class you can take in recruiting children to be gay? Is this something gay people are born knowing how to do? Because I think I missed that memo... Woops.
And, furthermore, if it were possible for us to recruit children, why would we be wasting our time trying to convince all the homophobes that we were right? It seems to me like it would be a lot easier to just recruit all of their children and then go, "HA. WE'VE GOT YOUR CHILDREN AND WE'RE HOLDING THEM RANSOM UNTIL WE GET OUR RIGHTS!"
Seeing as that hasn't happened yet...

6. Gay people can have civil unions, but marriage is only between one man and one woman.
Hi. Welcome to the 21st Century. Here, we don't believe in the "separate but equal" doctrine. In fact, that ideology was ruled unconstitutional and stupid over 50 years ago in Brown v. Board of Education. If you have any other questions about this new century, please feel free to ask. We like to welcome people that were clearly born yesterday.

7. God hates homosexuals.
I can't believe this is even an argument. SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE, MOTHERFUCKERS! Otherwise, can we go with this religion?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/rastafari/customs/customs_1.shtml
Then we can legalize pot no problem, right?
And, even if we didn't have that, who says that the religions that forbid homosexuality are the ones we should be paying attention to? Like, what about Unitarian Universalists? They don't seem to have a problem with homosexuality.

8. The Bible says being gay is a sin.
Right. I think this a great argument. We should all go around following the advice of a 2,000 year old book. Maybe in the year 4,000 A.D. they'll start worshipping a young man named Harry Potter, the god that defeated the evil Voldemort and rescued us all from being slaves to the wizards.
And not to mention the fact that everyone follows all of the principles of the Bible. I know that my dad offered me up to a group of ravaging sinners so that they wouldn't rape the angels as soon as I was of age. It was a beautiful bonding moment for us.
...

9. Being gay is a choice.
Yeah, all us gay people just woke up one morning and said to ourselves, "Gosh, I bet it would be fun to be told repeatedly that I'm going to hell, that God hates me, that I'm a faggot, and that I don't deserve to be loved. OH! And then maybe my parents will reject me and my friends will hate me, and I'll get bullied at school or get fired from my job. And, best of all, I won't be able to get married! If only there were some way to make that happen... OH HEY! I CAN BE GAY!" Yup. That's how it went down.
Also: when did you decide to be straight? Did a teacher recruit you too???
No? Didn't think so.

In summary:
Homophobes can shove their crap arguments up their collective ass.

Thanks For Trying

Recently, I discovered that people have a strange desire to know my sexuality beyond question.
I'm not going to lie: I don't think there's any reason why anyone else needs to know. Yes, I am open about being gay and, no, I don't mind telling you, but I do mind when you ask.
I was having an argument about this with my friend because she didn't understand what the big deal was. Like, I'm clearly gay and I'm clearly alright with being gay, so if someone asks, why can't I just tell them and be done with it?
Because nobody has the right to ask. It's personal. I can choose to tell you, and most likely I will. Asking someone's sexuality is like asking someone with a zit on their forehead if they have acne. I don't get it. Things that are considered rude in every other aspect of society are considered completely acceptable in the realm of homosexuality.
I tried to excuse it and I tried to just say, "Well, society is adjusting. One day it will be considered unacceptable to ask, but for now, we just have to deal with it." But then I realized that that is complete bullshit. What if Martin Luther King sat there and said, "Well, society is adjusting. One day, black people will be allowed to sit in the front of the bus, but for now, we just have to deal with it."
Sounds stupid, doesn't it?
Probably because it is.
So no more of that. I'm done tolerating bullshit, but thanks for trying to persuade me that offensive things aren't offensive. It was a good effort.

The Westboro Baptist Church

I am of the opinion that there is a difference between those of us who are against gay marriage, and those of us who are against gay people.
The former, I can tolerate, possibly even be good friends with. Being against gay marriage is simply opinion, and you're entitled to your opinion.
But if you're against gay people (*ahem* Westboro Baptist Church *ahem*)...
FUCK OFF.
It's not a choice, so for you to be against another human being over something they can't control is fucking stupid.
And then to be against those people at MILITARY FUNERALS is... It's... beyond words because there are no words for that sort of disregard of another human being's feelings. You can have your political viewpoint, you can have your bigotry and your homophobia, and you can even have your protests. But at a funeral? Really?
Why don't I go protest at a funeral for one of your congregation members? I can make signs that say, "God hates the WBC," and get a whole bunch of people to come with me and we can yell when you drive by and interrupt your grieving process.
Or maybe I won't. Maybe I'll just give you the respect you deserve as another human being.
And maybe you'll try doing the same one day.

IT'S BEEN REPEALED, BIZNITCHES!

So I know I'm ridiculously late with this post, but...
DON'T ASK DON'T TELL WAS REPEALED!!!!!!!!
I'll give you a second to do a happy dance.
Done? Good. :)
I was RIDICULOUSLY EXCITED. FINALLY THE SENATORS STARTED THE LONG PROCESS OF GETTING THE STICK OUT OF THEIR ASS. I mean, don't get me wrong, there's still a long way to go, BUT HELL FUCKING YES.
And, yeah, we still have to wait for it go into effect and I'm sure there are lots of people very unhappy and blah blah blah.
But it's progress. Congratulations, everybody. :)
